Dr Kate McSweeney PSYCHOLOGIST
Kate is the principal psychologist at Kintsugi Health. She is a highly-qualified, multi-talented much loved member of our team. Since the completion of her Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree in 2006, Kate has worked in a variety of clinical settings, including private clinics, public psychiatric services and research settings.
Kate founded Mansfield Psychology in 2010, and as a Board Approved Supervisor, she now balances her clinical work with the supervision and training of early- to mid-career psychologists.
Kate has long had an interest in the use of psychological interventions to support holistic health and wellbeing, and she loves working with a like-minded multidisciplinary team to achieve the very best of outcomes for her clients. Thanks to funding awarded by beyondblue, in 2012 Kate helped publish clinical research in the area of multidisciplinary interventions for depression, and she looks forward to evaluating the outcomes achieved by the Kintsugi Health team.
Kate uses a range of evidence-based psychological therapies in her work with clients, but she returns to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT) time and time again. She loves how it manages to both foster a present-moment focus and draw out value-driven goals to shape behaviour change. She will find a mindfulness exercise to suit almost everyone! While the therapeutic approach is important to Kate, most of all she hopes that her clients feel heard and understood – she believes wholeheartedly that therapy is a collaborative process.
Kate walks the talk when it comes to lifestyle interventions to promote wellbeing. During her time away from work, you’ll likely find her in the garden or on a nature-based adventure with her family. She weaves mindfulness and movement into her days and she loves to cook healthy, nourishing meals. An aspiring permaculturalist, Kate’s leaning into all things regenerative and resilient. She loves local food and fostering community.
